Is It Holidays is built on open public holiday data covering 121 countries and 760+ regional jurisdictions. We believe in transparent attribution and licensing compliance. This page documents every dataset that powers our 20,000+ holiday pages, along with the licenses under which we use them.

Public Holiday Data

Nager.Date

All public holiday dates, names, observance rules, and regional jurisdictions on Is It Holidays are sourced from Nager.Date, a leading open-source public holiday API used by enterprises, developers, and reference sites worldwide. Nager.Date aggregates official public holiday data from government sources and maintains it as a public good.

Data Refresh Cadence

Public holiday data is fetched at build time and baked into the static pages of Is It Holidays. We rebuild the site annually as new calendar years are published, and as governments announce changes to existing holidays. Pages on Is It Holidays do not make live API calls when users load them — all data is pre-rendered for speed and reliability.

Country and Region Codes

Country identifiers use the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 standard (e.g., DE for Germany, US for United States). State and provincial identifiers use ISO 3166-2 (e.g., US-CA for California, DE-BY for Bavaria). These are international standards published by the International Organization for Standardization.

How We Use the Data

Source data is fetched from Nager.Date during our build process, processed and stored as static JSON, then compiled into pre-rendered HTML pages served from a content delivery network. We do not make live API calls to source providers when users load pages. This approach minimizes load on Nager.Date's infrastructure and ensures Is It Holidays remains fast and available even if upstream services experience downtime.

Commercial License

Nager.Date offers commercial licenses for organizations that use their public holiday data in revenue-generating products. TRX Ventures LLC, the operator of Is It Holidays, holds an active Nager.Date commercial license, supporting the ongoing maintenance of this open data resource.

Public holiday data is verified against official government sources where possible.
